Time & Spirit is ideal for convention general sessions.
The idea for
Time & Spirit emerged from a Leadership Sanctuary held last spring.
Participants told stories about time
and about their experience of time doing business in
other
countries or
cultures. One New Zealander explained that when doing business with
the Maori
tribes, an executive knows he or she is expected to stay until the business is
complete – until
all have had a chance to speak their voice. This might be an
hour, or it
might be a week. It is
simply not appropriate to leave before
completion. Time, for the
Maori, is not by the clock, but
by the
process -- is the process complete or incomplete?
Over the years, the compelling challenge of
time, priorities, and life balance has been
the most frequently mentioned
concern of executives I work with, and perhaps
among
most people engaged in
mainstream American life. As a consultant, coach, and
facilitator, I
have often
observed the conflict that arises between Chronos time – time
certain
related to
getting things done (agendas, tasks, schedules) – and Kyros time –
time
related to process, deep
listening, and understanding that the time it
takes is the
time it
takes. Many have experienced
the frustration that
comes from trying to do a
Kyros process
on a Chronos schedule…
There is a rich
diversity of how people and cultures, past and present, relate to time.
I look forward to sharing these stories
with you…
