Heaven and Earth

THE BUMBLE BEE
Originally published in DREAMING IN METAPHORS, 1998; to be published QUICKSILVER MOON SERIES for release Winter 2002

a bumblebee flies into my apartment
it didn't mean to be there
--it panics
and seeing the outside through a glass window
it proceeds to push and push against the glass trying to get where it wants to go
in its panic never moving from its task long enough
to see the open window just inches away

how like the bumble bee I am in my work or my life
i see where i want to go
and in my panic
i forget to look for the open window

so i push and push and push
thinking i should be rewarded for all this hard work
when, in fact, i am so frantic
like the bee against the glass.

Welcome
May the beauty we love be what we do.
There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the ground.
                                                                                                    Rumi

Many of us are intent on discovering what we care most deeply about and then acting on that. Sometimes this requires great courage because what we care about may frighten us, or it frightens us to be as big as our caring.

Sometimes the best we can do is just try to walk through this scary situation of being alive.  Do you ever
wonder: Am I enough?  Am I accepted?  Will I be able to take care of myself, to cope?  Do I measure up?  These anxieties can keep us from being the beauty that we love.

Or perhaps you or your organization have been doing life the same way for too long.  You know you need to rediscover yourself, but you feel uncomfortable, frightened, or overwhelmed by what that means.  Maybe the board of directors has said “It is time to change.”  Maybe a nagging back or a concerned partner try to get your attention. Perhaps it is the persistent call of your soul to reclaim lost or hidden parts of yourself.

I have been reclaiming the lost and hidden parts of myself since 1987.  Until 36, I focused solely on a financial leadership career.  One day, my life became too small a truth to sustain me anymore.  I was compelled to walk headfirst into the mystery of my life, and determined to find the open window into that mystery.  Over time, I found my own simple, peaceful way.

My work is a reflection of that journey -- as coach, consultant, author, or artistI assist and witness the rediscovery of who you are and the beauty you love, whether you are an individual or an organization.

I invite you to browse this website.  My hope is that you will find comfort that you are not alone in your fears or your dreams, and that the beauty you love will be what you do…
